We offer a wide range of pre-engineered, pre-wired hybrid power systems for home power backup using 2 or more energy sources. Systems are available with any combination of grid power, solar power, stored energy in a battery bank, and gas or diesel generator. These systems are designed to automatically use energy from all the available sources in a pre-determined priority. For example, if you select a system that has grid-power, solar power, and a battery bank, the system will use grid-power as the primary source of power for your energy needs, will automatically keep the battery bank charged with solar power, and will automatically switch to stored energy in the battery bank to power your priority circuits when the grid power is out. The switching between grid power and battery power is seamless with switching being done in 10 milliseconds both ways. For extended power outages, if your system has a gas generator it will automatically start the gas generator to re-charge the battery bank only when needed and will shut it off after the battery bank is fully charged.

FlexSource Power Cells are also available with grid-power, a battery bank, and gas generator, with no solar power. This is a very sustainable power system that can handle grid power outages for multiple days or even weeks. When the grid power goes out due to storm damage or other causes, the system automatically switches to the battery bank to supply power to your priority circuits. If the grid power is out for an extended period, say 12 hours or more, the system automatically starts the gas generator to re-charge the battery bank and shuts it off after the battery bank is re-charged. This design saves approximately 67-83% of the fossil-fuel usage as compared to 2nd generation standby gas generator systems that run continuously during a grid power outage.

The ultimate Hybrid Power System for most applications would include grid-power, solar power, a battery bank, and a gas or diesel generator. This configuration is the most sustainable in terms of keeping your power on in an extended grid power failure in cases of hurricane, tornado, or terrorist attack on the power grid. This power source configuration also gives the customer more energy independence and sustainability. Aside from your own hydro-power plant in your backyard, you can’t do much better than this for power reliability!

  • The FlexSource PowerCell utilizes a battery bank for power storage and incorporates an inverter/charger to maintain the battery bank at the optimum charge level. If grid power is lost, the input power source automatically switches to battery backup (10 milliseconds) to ensure priority circuits remain on.

If the battery backup power is fully depleted during an extended grid power outage (12+ hours), the system triggers a gas generator to recharge the battery bank. Once recharged, the system shuts off the generator, ensuring fuel usage is kept to a minimum (up to 83% more fuel efficient than standard stand-by generators). The system seamlessly switches back to grid power, when restored, with minimal power disruption.

For home with no existing provisions for backup power but wish to add solar power for energy independence and reduced reliance on grid power, the Hybrid PowerCell upgrade with a solar array is ideal. This setup can sync to grid and feed solar power into the main AC panel for use in home and keep the battery bank fully charged as a backup power source.

All FlexSource PowerCells are pre-wired and pre-engineered for easy installation by a licensed electrician.
