Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a hybrid solar power system?

A hybrid solar power system combines solar energy with grid power, battery storage, and often a backup gaseous generator to harness alternative energy and provide reliable electricity for homes or businesses.

2. How does a hybrid solar power system work?

During the day, solar panels generate electricity from sunlight. Excess solar energy not immediately used in the AC panel is stored in batteries for use during the night or when demand exceeds solar production. The grid and backup generator provide additional support as needed.

3. What are the benefits of a hybrid solar power system?

Hybrid systems offer energy independence, reduced electricity bills by utilizing solar energy, backup power during outages, and potential financial incentives such as tax credits, grants, and asset depreciation.

4. Can I still use grid power with a hybrid system?

Yes, hybrid systems are connected to the grid, ensuring a stable power supply even when solar energy or battery storage is insufficient.

5. Are there financial incentives available for installing a hybrid solar power system?

Yes, customers may benefit from a 30% income tax credit on the full installed system cost and potentially qualify for the REAP grant, which can cover up to 50% of the project's expenses. Customers may also have the opportunity to depreciate the hybrid solar system for years of savings!

6. How long do the components of the system typically last?

All our components come with robust warranties, backed by US companies, ensuring durability and long-term performance. Specific warranty details can be provided upon request. Our preferred Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries have a life expectancy of 16 years, based on 6000 cycles, 1 cycle per day. Lithium Ion Phosphate has been proven to be the safest and most reliable battery chemistry. The generator we recommend for most systems comes with a 10 year warranty, and Sol-Ark inverters come with a 10 year warranty as well. The solar panels can be expected to have a life of at least 25 to 30 years.

7. Can solar panels be installed on both rooftops and the ground?

Yes, our system design can be flexible for rooftop or ground-mounted installation, depending on site suitability and customer preference.

8. Do I need to sell excess power back to the utility company?

No, with our hybrid systems, you retain control over your generated electricity and are not required to sell excess power to the utility company unless you choose to participate in a buyback program. This allows you to use all of your generated electricity at full value, rather than selling it back to the power company for pennies on the dollar.

9. How does Great Lakes Applied Power handle the installation process?

We can manage every aspect of the project from start to finish, ensuring a smooth installation and integration of your hybrid solar power system. Depending on customer preference and/or location, we can alternatively provide all components with complete installation instructions and technical support to be installed by a contractor of your choice.
